EQ8 tutorial Tuesday–polydraw

I finally got Open Live writer working again so now I can do screenshots and modify them etc and do easy blog posts!

Have you ever looked at polydraw blocks??

Let’s take a look

When you want to create a new block, most often you would make an EasyDraw block or maybe an applique?

Have you looked at the polydraw button?

As you can see, there’s options for Rectangle, eight point star, circle, kaleidoscope, arc or octagon

Let’s look at each (the rectangle is just basic, so I’ll skip that one)

when you click the eight point star there’s a dotted line to show the star but also the snap points are matching it and they are not a straight grid like normal

when you want to start drawing shapes you have to double click and draw lines and then double click again when you want to stop

Here I also drew lines across some of the star points

I wouldn’t want to actually sew this with all the Y seams! well maybe EPP…

another polydraw is a circle

You have to draw with the arc tool on this block and the line will snap into place

here I filled in a quarter of the block

then I copy and pasted these and rotated 90 degrees and filled it in

Next is the kaleidoscope, again there’s snaps that follow the kaleidoscope lines or angles

Here I just played with the top left corner and the top middle and filled it in with odd lines

then I cloned and rotated like before

Next is an arc- recognize it as a new York beauty block!?

Here I just filled it in pretty simply

and lastly is the octagon

here I just filled in an eight of the block

Then I cloned and flipped it

Then I cloned and rotated these and filled it in quickly

Let’s see what some of these blocks look like in quilts!

Here’s a layout with the first eight pointed star

and the circle block looks almost nuclear!

and with the kaleidoscope blocks I flipped every other one (ALT)

Just after swapping out a few colors, it looks completely different

Next is the arc block, with an on-point layout, it looks like bees dive bombing the quilt!
