EQ Tutorial Tuesday – inspiration hits the chimney sweep

The other day I was playing around in EQ and I was kinda bored, then I had an idea to find a random blocks and design something with it!

I counted the sections in 01 classic pieced and found it had 39 categories, so I entered that into random.org and got the number 21, which is Ladies Art Company (such an odd name)

and the little number on the bottom right shows how many blocks are in that section so 47

and random.org picked #9 which is called “Roman cross” it did look familiar in a way and entered into the sketchbook, then it hit me what was familiar about it! The chimney sweep block! (which I can’t find in EQ, so I’ve had to redesign it for Accuquilt, so I opened up my chimney sweep file and entered the roman cross to that sketchbook)

The block is on point so I tried an on point layout but didn’t LOVE it….

Then I tried a normal straight layout and played around with the colors and came up with this, which I LOVE!

when I export a quilt and save it, I export without the line drawings so I can see what a real quilt will look like (or turn it off on the left menu bar) Do you see something?

those gazillion tiny triangles on the edges of the blocks don’t need to be there, you can just cut out the squares instead and assemble the whole thing at an angle and only have the triangles on the edges!

The Accuquilt die makes 10″ blocks so I set the quilt layout to that and the block cutting directions are a bit odd but not too bad, I’d rather cut 2 1/4″ squares instead of triangles! (especially if I didn’t have the die!)

Now I want to make this quilt! ha ha. we’ll see
