This week’s block is Maine!

What a tricky block! at first it provided templates and I had a hard time sewing those odd triangles together, so instead I redid it in EQ and printed it out for FPP and it’s much better.

Here’s some facts about Maine the Pine Tree state

(my sister in law lives there btw)

Maine’s nickname as the Pine Tree State comes from the pines that once dotted the state’s forests.

Maine is the only state in the United States whose name has one syllable.

Eastport is the most eastern city in the United States. The city is considered the first place in the United States to receive the rays of the morning sun.

Approximately 40 millions pounds (nearly 90 percent) of the nation’s lobster supply is caught off the coast of Maine.

Maine produces 99% of all the blueberries in the country making it the single largest producer of blueberries in the United States.

90% of the country’s toothpick supply is produced in Maine.

Author Steven King is a resident of Bangor. (we went to his house and took a picture outside the gate- kind of spooky looking)

There are over 60 lighthouses in this state, so plan to stop off at a few of them as you venture through.

As you travel through Maine you will find tons of opportunity to get out in nature, but don’t be surprised if you end up getting a bit lost. There is more forest coverage in this state than any other state in the country. Over nine-tenths of the land is covered in forests.

Most people love to look through the L.L. Bean catalogue, but most have no idea where that merchandise actually comes from. It comes from Maine, of course. The city of Freeport is the home of this popular manufacturer. (We love L.L.Bean from Maine)

Don’t Forget Your Parachute
Once your airplane leaves the runway, it is too late to change your mind and go back home.
Law prevents you from stepping out of a plane while it is in flight.

Guns Required
If there is one thing you have never done in church, it probably has something to do with packing the heat. That is, unless you live in Maine. State law makes it a requirement to carry a gun to church in the event of an Indian attack.

If you’re keeping up with the block and making them, link up below and comment that you did.

  1. Such a beautiful block, and fun facts post! I knew some, but not all! Love LL Bean! Love blueberries and Sal!

  2. I've been to Maine once and of course love it there specifically for the lobster and the blueberries. We are planning a visit back there this summer.

  3. Great idea, I'm a couple of weeks behind, will try to catch up before we leave for 4 month camping trip. Taking projects, but *not* the Covering America OR the Be Attitudes – too many fabrics needed for each and can't justify the space. Will join up when we get back.
