Mystery QAL #1

It’s time for the first “clue”

again the quilt will be 59″ x 59″ and I made mine with the 8″ QUBE and I’ll provide rotary cutting for this size only BUT you can use other QUBE sizes if you want to make it smaller or bigger, the blocks are super easy!

See yardage here

(If you’re using a different QUBE set, see at the bottom of the post for size and yardage)

Fabrics and CUTTING!

Here’s the 5 fabrics I am using for my quilt:

A: Bluey fabric 1 1/4yd

B: Yellow/Orange dotted 1yd

C: Light Blue mottled almost solid 1yd

D: White 1 1/4yd

E: Dark Blue dotted 1/2yd

For this QAL we’ll do all the cutting FIRST- because that’s what I did 🙂 and then you’ll also make sure you have enough of the fabrics!

I used the 8″ QUBE set, die shapes #1, 3 and #4

Fabric A:

Cut 32 of shape #4 (rotary cut 8–5 1/4″ squares, then cut diagonally TWICE to get 32 quarter square triangles)

Cut 5 of shape #1 (rotary cut 5–4 1/2″ squares)

Also cut 6–3 1/2″ WOF strips for borders

Fabric B:

Cut 16 of shape #4 (rotary cut 4–5 1/4″ squares, then cut diagonally TWICE to get 16 quarter square triangles)

Cut 16 of shape #3 (rotary cut 8–4 7/8″ squares, cut diagonally to get 16 half square triangles)

also cut 6–2 1/2″ WOF strips for borders

Fabric C:

rotary cut (or use a strip cutter to but WOF strips) 15–2″ WOF strips, put 5 of these strips aside for borders and from the rest cut out 40–8 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles for sashing

Fabric D:

Cut 68 of shape #4 (rotary cut 17–5 1/4″ squares, then cut diagonally TWICE to get 68 quarter square triangles)

Cut 80 of shape #3 (rotary cut 40–4 7/8″ squares, cut diagonally to get 80 half square triangles)

Fabric E:

Cut 36 of shape #3 (rotary cut 18–4 7/8″ squares, cut diagonally to get 36 half square triangles)

also rotary cut 16–2″ x 2″ squares for cornerstones (this is actually die #2 from the 6″ QUBE if you want to use that!)

That’s it 🙂

Have fun!!

OTHER QUBE SIZES

Because there’s sashing and borders, I kept those the same in the yardage below, if you want to change the sashing size or the borders then of course the finished size and yardage will be different!

4″ QUBE = 39″ x 39″ quilt (1/2yd of each of the different fabrics, except for E which is only 1/4yd)

5″ QUBE = 44″ x 44″ quilt (1/2yd of B,D,E and 3/4yd of A and C)

6″ QUBE = 49″ x 49″ quilt (1yd of A, 3/4yd of B,C, D and 1/2yd of E)

9″ QUBE = 64″ x 64″ quilt (A= 1 1/4yd, B and C = 1yd, D =1 1/2ydyd, E =3/4yd)

10″ QUBE = 69″ x 69″ quilt (A= 1 1/2yd, B and C = 1yd, D= 1 3/4yd, E =3/4yd)

12″ QUBE = 79″ x 79″ quilt (A = 1 3/4yd, B and C = 1 1/2yd, D = 2yds, E = 1yd)

If you want to change the finished quilt to be a rectangle then maybe wait and see or get more of each fabric, I can’t tell you much more than that 🙂
