A very popular and fun quilt block is the Storm at sea block!
Accuquilt has a die to make the block.
It's a die that has all the pieces to make a 9" (or 12" depending on how you look at it) block
OR you can use several QUBE sets to cut out the pieces but the diamond section would be 2 triangle in a square blocks instead.
I made this quilt for Accuquilt for the die release.
You can find the pattern on their website.

I have also made scrappy storm at sea blocks and made a big quilt some years ago with a fun sashing around it in black and white.

I also made this smaller quilt using my Wild Storm pattern but changing a few things

The pattern is on sale for $5 as I'm retiring it!
(Plus retired patterns are BOGO- Buy 1 and get 1 free - I just add a freebie in with the order!)

Another quilt I made with this pattern!

and more ideas

One of my newest patterns ALSO use the storm at sea block, with clever fabric placement it looks like waves!

So as you can see, the storm at sea block is a versatile block and a lot of fun to make!
