Have you tried Accuquilt's Turkey in the Straw die?

The turkey in the straw die is a somewhat simple BOB die, but the pieces are all ON-point so the math in that might be tricky if you're rotary cutting!

It looks like the die is on sale!

I made this quilt for Accuquilt for the die release where I combined the Turkey in the straw die with the 10" QUBE!

I wanted to make it again but make it a rectangle with 3x4 blocks instead of 3x3

I chose some different fabrics though

3/4yds white (I cut 1yd)

Yellow 1/4yd (I cut 1/2yd)

Green 3/4yd (I cut 1yd)

Teal flower 1 1/4yd (I cut 1 1/2yd)

When I cut fabrics for quilts I always round up to the closest half yard, it gives room for mistakes and I keep inventory of my yardage on bolts and it's just easier to half 1/2yd increments :)

As you can see it's easy to lay out the strips on the die and cut them all at once

On the board shape A you cut 4 1/2" WOF strips

shape B cut 4 1/2" WOF strips

shape C cut 3 3/4" WOF strips

shape D cut 2 1/4" WOF strips

shape E cut 2 1/2" WOF strips

For the 10" QUBE you need shape #4 cut 6 3/4" WOF strips

shape #5 cut 4" WOF strips

shape #6 cut 4 1/2" WOF strips

Here's what I cut (always cut the widest WOF first so you can use the leftover strips for the next size to save fabric)

Turquoise : #6 (4 1/2" WOF strips x 3) cut 24

shape B (4 1/2" WOF strips x 2) cut 24

Plus borders- you can always cut that later

Green: shape A (4 1/2" WOF strip x 1) cut 6

shape E (2 1/2" WOF strip x 2) cut 48

shape D (2 1/4" WOF strip x 1 or maybe I used leftovers- I don't remember now) cut 24

plus borders which you can cut later

Yellow: #6 (4 1/2" WOF strip x 1) cut 6

shape B (4 1/2" WOF strip x 2) cut 24

White: #4 (6 3/4" WOF strips x 1) cut 24

#5 (4" WOF strips x 2) cut 24

shape C (3 3/4" WOF strips 1 + scraps) cut 24

shape E (2 1/2" WOF strips x 2) cut 48

shape D (2 1/4" WOF strip 1+ scraps) cut 24

Here's the first strips laid on the die and fan folded as much as possible!

I'm guessing the green was cut 2" wide and the turquoise was cut 3 1/2", I think 5 strips of each to piece the side borders.

for the Turkey in the straw block pieces I sewed 2 green E triangles to the sides of a white D triangle then added a green D triangle above it

and 2 white E triangles are added to the sides

The rest of the block is easy, C white triangles added together with a yellow and a turquoise B rectangle, then 4 of each section is sewn together with a green A square in the middle

I made 6 of the turkey blocks and 6 of the alternate 10" QUBE blocks like this

then sewed them all together and added borders and quilted it

It measures 39" x 49"

Here's some other color options from EQ

This last one is with fabrics from my shop :)

Turkey in the straw is a fun die to try and very easy to use and the blocks look great!
