I recently finished this cute baby version of my pattern called
Beach Bum!
It finished 38″ x 43″
Normally it finishes 51″ x 59″ because it’s made with 6″ blocks
(6″ QUBE set if you want) but this time I made the pieces TINY! by using the 4″ QUBE set!!
The pattern calls for a light and dark of two colors, but I only picked teal turquoise and yellow and figured I’d “wing it”
These are 2″ Diamond blocks- so TINY and cute!
Then added the squares, I just LOVE scrappy quilt blocks, and the more variety the better!
And here I laid out the blocks, I tried really hard to not have the same fabrics touch but sometimes I had to, but that’s ok, it’s so busy anyways! and I think it was really fun that some of the teal/ turquoise was sort of dark so it really sticks out in random places.
That’s a benefit of using a design wall, so I can see how the blocks look next to each other before sewing them together, though sometimes I like to just pile them together and sew them randomly together and see what happens!
scrappy yellow doesn’t usually get that much variety because if it’s too pale it’s almost beige and would go in that bin, if it’s too dark I might get a red tint to it and then it’s orange!
Whereas the turquoise can be light teal, turquoise, seafoam green etc, the turquoise “class” has SO much variety, it’s one of my scrap bins that almost always overflows!
Then I sewed the top together
and added borders, this can be a bit tricky with ON-POINT blocks, but as long as you’re careful, it works out just fine- and the quilting can help too!
I quilted large flowers all over it in pale yellow thread
The backing is a turquoise dotted fabric from the FQ club
As a special THIS WEEK I have the pattern on sale for $8 until May 10th!
Here’s a few more quilts made using this pattern
