Ready for school with Accuquilt

Have you looked at Accuquilt’s  blog this week where I made this cute Schoolhouse quilt with their die, strip cutter and square die?

As always, every quilt starts by me playing in EQ8!

The schoolhouse die finishes at 9″ so I created alternate “target” blocks with 1″ fin. logs too and left the middle at 3″ and I added a 1″ sashing and then a wide border.

In EQ it’s easy to play with the colors, here’s a boy version

a more neutral or maybe Christmas version?

The rainbow version was the winner, so I pulled out lots of fabrics from Connecting threads

Then the schoolhouse die, the 1 1/2″ strip cutter die and a 3 1/2″ square (#1 in the 6″ QUBE set or #2 in the 12″ QUBE set)

there’s more detailed pictures of Accuquilt’s blog and specific cutting directions for all the blocks, here’s the blocks all together, took no time at all!

And here’s the finished quilt! 39″ x 39″

I quilted cumulus clouds all over it in white thread

I used scrap yardage for the backing and to be on the safe side I added a strip down the middle for my long arm.

The schoolhouse die is such a fun die and strip dies are great too!

  1. Why do you need the middle strip on back for long arm??
Love the blocks & pattern you made- I can visualize these in school colors for both of my daughters offices ( they are school counselors).
