Have some SPAM potholders!

This has been some crazy couple of weeks!

Good thing I finished this project in mid March because after the CDC recommended I make masks, I got really busy!

I had planned another project for April as a Michael Miller ambassador but this works too and maybe I’ll push my other project to May instead.

anyways, one of the fabrics I got from MMF was this fun SPAM line of fabrics! I got 1/2yd of 3 fabrics and some solid dark blue as well.

Looks like the real thing huh?! (I bought these during the PANIC time, still haven’t opened them, but heard it tastes good pan fried)

I used my 8″ QUBE set and cut out pieces to make 4 star blocks

I first sewed together the flying geese (16)

as I was sewing together the star blocks I tried to match up the yellow and light blue fabrics from how I cut them so the pictures and text line up.

here’s 4 blocks done

Potholders are great for using up batting scraps! I placed two blocks on batting and two on insulbright (by the warm company) and I top stitched the blocks to the batting.

I made hanging tags and pinned to the center top and then laid two potholder blocks right sides together (one with batting, one with insulbright) then pinned

I then stitched them together and left an opening at the bottom

then whip stitched them together and VOILA! they are done!!

Here’s some of the many masks I made (of course 3 with the SPAM fabric)

I made them using this tutorial I came up with.

Stay safe everyone!

The thought of spam face masks and pot holders made me chuckle. It is pretty odd stuff…only ever eaten in hourse when I was very young and cooked in brown sugar!

  2. I can’t believe that they have made SPAM fabric! I’m sorry, but we had to eat it for a week in Girl Scouts because the government gave the Girl Scouts this huge surplus. And I just can’t stomach it anymore. Thanks for the inspiration, though!

  3. Spam also makes a great pasta salad, too. Corkscrew pasta (cooked & cooled). Add mayo, mustard, relish and cubed Spam. I also ad some season salt. Chill, then serve. Makes a great lunch with some crackers, and maybe some olives.
