Small Blog hop

smallest
Thanks to Carol at just let me quilt for hosting another great blog hop!
I’ve made many MINI projects over the years, some have been downright CRAZY! or you’d call ME crazy for doing them…. but they are SO much fun!!
Here’s a review of what I could find of mini things I’ve made
These first ones are in batiks
(not sure if this star one is with Island Batik fabrics, but the rest are)
2014-10-03 008

DSCF6132
DSCF6419
mini ohio star pincushion (5”) so not THAT mini, but still those triangles are small!
pincushion10

DSCF7973
and recently I made this mini crazy quilt
DSCF9688
Now other quilts, not in batiks Smile
and lastly I made this Women of the bible quilt where the blocks were 3” finished!
Yeah I think I have a problem with minis Winking smile
2015-07-13 001
Now for my NEW project, I made a MINI pincushion!
A fellow Island Batik ambassador wrote this neat book about mini quilts called Little Gems
One mini quilt in the book was using snail trail/ monkey wrench blocks.
Instead of making a mini quilt, I just printed the block TWICE and planned to make a pincushion!
I found this charm pack I got as an extra with a craftsy order once- Anja got into them so they are a mess!
DSCF9711
But I ironed what I needed and cut pieces to fit and went to work.
Here’s the two blocks un-trimmed- they are SO tiny!!
DSCF9734
about 2 1/2” cut
DSCF9735
Then I sewed them right sides together and left an opening
DSCF9736
and stuffed it with crushed walnut shells and whip stitched the opening closed
DSCF9737
Look, it’s about the height of a pin!
DSCF9738
As a little giveaway, I’ll give away this mini pincushion and the left over charms I have.
Leave a comment below and answer, what’s the smallest pieced block you’ve ever made?

Here’s a schedule of all the other bloggers who’s been making minis!!
Have a look!!

I love making pincushions of all sizes so have made lots of different sized pieced blocks for them, one of my favourites is probably a mini hexie flower that sits in the middle os a 3' block, it is very sweet. I would think 3" is my smaller size pieced block. Thank you for a fun giveaway. x

Ha, I can't get it small enough. I think I've made a 1" ninepatc block, but also many other different ones. Fun to see your post today. I'm also in with a mini.

I think I'm addicted to pincushions and tiny projects. It's great to know other people are too.

A lot of great mini projects here! thanks for sharing.

I love your pincushions, Bea. Thanks so much for sharing. My smallest pieced block was 1/2". It was very hard keeping a straight seam.

The smallest block I've ever made was a 1.5" log cabin that I used in a Chatelaine. I just LOVE miniatures.

The smallest block I have ever made is probably a 1&1/2 inch 9 patch block. I do love making small quilts. I love your snails trail tiny pin cushion! Thanks for the chance to win.

I used to make mini quilts...I'll have to get back to it. My smallest block was 2 inches.

Lovely pincushions!
My smallest block isn't as small as others. I made four 3.5" paper pieced pineapple blocks. There are about about 36 pieces in each. They are cute, I finally tried them, but I think I'll stick to regular piecing ☺!

Beautiful pieces! I don't normally do mini anything...lol. My smallest wasn't a cathedral window pin cushion.

Now that is a teeny tiny block! Great projects!

1 1/2" blocks are my smallest. It takes a lot of them to make a quilt. Your snails trails are very cute. Thanks for sharing.

You, my dear, are a mini expert. WOW, great small projects and all so perfect. I haven't really pieced too many smalls. I do like to use the interfacing technique if I do. Love your mini pincushion and it's so perfect!!

Very sweet projects, I think the smallest finished block I've made is 1" finished hsts but there were enough of them in the quilt to cure me from making more for awhile :)

I paper pieced a 3" log cabin block for a wall hanging many, many years ago.

I love all your mini projects! The smallest that I remember making is a 3-inch finished 9 patch.

lol.....perhaps you need a 12 step program for your mini addiction. Those are all fabulous. I love that Snails Trail pincushion. That is tiny! I suppose my smallest mini was also a pincushion - a Schnibble one. The problem was that it did not make a good pincushion as there were too many seams for such a tiny piece, but the back works great.

I feel like I'm at a quilt show. Fun post. Love all your small projects.

Probably about 4" on a paper-pieced block I was trying to design. I usually make queen-sized quilts, so that just wasn't going to happen for an entire quilt! It ended up being a mug rug! Your minis are all so adorable...makes me re-think my need to create HUGE quilts!

That's quite the assortment of minis! Thanks for showing them all

I made a miniature wallhanging of 15 paperpieced Santas. The complete paperpieced blocks were diamonds 1.5 x 3 inches.

I made a tiny one years ago, about 2.5 x 2.5 pieced. I don't have the actual dimensions as it's still in a box somewhere. We just moved house.

The smallest I have made and still making for a project is little 1 1/2" four patch blocks.

That's adorable! My smallest block finished at 2 1/2", I think. It had a few triangles that were about 3/4" each. Too tiny but a lesson in accuracy.

Great mini projects. The smallest block I've made was a 4 inch log cabin.

Jayne said...

The smallest blocks I have made would be about 6 inches. Perhaps I need to think smaller and use up more scraps.

Think the smallest blocks I've made were two inch pinwheels made for a doll quilt, actually cut-offs from a baby quilt that had a lot of snowball blocks. So fun to see all your minis.

I'm not sure but I think the smallest block I've pieced was 2" finished. Thanks for sharing!

I can't imagine a pin cushion the size of a flowerhead pin. SEW small!! My smallest quilt blocks are 2.5" 9-Patch blocks.

You are a master mini project maker!!! I am so impressed and inspired with your work! I am not adept at making mini blocks, but I have made a mini 9 patch block to make a pin cushion that I still use today! duchick at mchsi dot com

You have such a knack for those tiny projects. They each seem like a labor of love. I adore that pineapple block which you turned into a pin cushion. I keep noticing pineapple blocks but have never done one. Don't we just love to reinvent a classic block!? Thanks for sharing your small and well constructed efforts.

I have made 2 1/2” foundation priced blocks.

Amazing, super cute!

I pieced a 1.5" finished pinwheel block and turned it into a pincushion. I worked with very tiny pieces. I actually like it. I've also sewed very small paper pieces together that when pressed only show about three threads. And that's no exaggeration. kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

That is a whole bunch of small little projects. I have not made any tiny little blocks, so all of those are pretty impressive.

I have a collection of 9 patch blocks for the Omigosh quilt (I think they are 1.5"). I made a tiny quilt for a sewing machine pin cushion (under the needle) that finished at 1.5" a few years ago. I used it so that I could 'sign' the back of the quilt with my machine, etc, for an exchange.
