Oh Baby with Island Batik

The theme this month with Island Batik is “Oh Baby”
and it’s supposed to be at least a crib sized quilt. But I decided to do something else!
First I got out this pretty bundle that’s called “Abalone
I had 1/4yd of each of 12 fabrics

I found these QUBE cube patterns at Accuquilt’s site and downloaded it.
Then because I have all 4 QUBE sets and companion sets, I played in EQ and came up with 6 blocks that used every single die shape!

And then I started cutting!, it’s fun to see the different sizes Smile

here are the piles ready to be sewn together!
and I have to say it was a squeaker!! I had hardly any fabrics left… phew Winking smile

So I started sewing as much as I could at a time before ironing!

and before long, all 6x4 blocks were done!

The next step was to add batting behind each one, which was a great use of batting scraps!!

and I quilted each block to the batting with an outline stitch around most seams.

When I trimmed the blocks I got to use my calibre art mat which swivels.

each cube was made by sewing the 6 block together into a cross shape

and then sewing them into cubes, leaving an opening on one seam
then I turned them right side out and stuffed with fiber fill.
I had a 10lb box that was running low and I of course ran out!! so I got 3 more bags of 1lb fiber fill and used almost all 3 (about 2.5 bags) and then whip stitched them closed.

The cubes are fun
a 6”, 8”, 9” and 12”

I had a great helper!

then I got another helper!

and it became a race to pile up the cubes before Anja would knock them over!!

I then asked Sonja to stack them with the same block facing out

and she had fun knocking them over too!

Such fun “pillows” and toys! and with Island Batik and Accuquilt, they went together quickly and easily!!
