The theme for this month with Island Batik was April Showers.
So I got the idea to make an embroidered block and then turn it into a pincushion.
You will need EQ stitch for this!!
I started off with a 4” hoop size ( really pincushions often aren’t that much bigger!)
Under the stitch tab I added a bunch of text boxes and picked different fonts
I also added a tear drop shape
Then under blocks, I searched for umbrella and found this umbrella as an applique on a letter block and copied it over.
I also found some applique flowers and copied them over
to make sure they are lined up straight, select each one and look at the Y axis at the top, I had mine at 30
If you click the stitch tab it may look at bit odd, but that’s when the playing begins!
Once you’ve clicked it once you can go back and select your words and stretch and move them around too.
Now start selecting the edge stitching and different widths or none at all!
Then fill pattern
You can also change the angle of the fill pattern
Then it’s time to add thread colors!
You can preview the stitching by pressing play!
Then you export the stitching file
and you select the type of file you want
and it asks to sort the colors, then click yes and continue
Here it is all stitched out
I decided to turn it into a pincushion and printed out a 4” pineapple block and used scraps of batiks for it to use as the back of the pincushion
here’s the front and back sewn together
and after I stuffed it with crushed walnut shells!
Do you have EQ stitch?
If you do, try this out and let me know if you did.
