EQ7 Tutorial Tuesday fun star block

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

You may have seen similar blocks on pinterest and want to make some yourself.

image

First in EQ7 select Block/new block/ patchDraw block

image

Then in the Grid box select eight pointed star

image

Then trace every shape on there

image

Now for piecing purposes, you can either do what it shows on the block OR split the triangles and squares in half, so you won’t have any Y seams

like this

Remember to double click when you connect the lines, when you end up at your starting point.

image

Do you see what block it is now?? the LeMoyne star block

image

and there’s quite a few of those in the sketchbook!

image

Select one of them and add it to sketchbook then edit it and start to draw lines on the star points (unselect snap points so it’s easier to draw the lines)

image

Because I’m just drawing sections to SEE what a quilt will look like and don’t care about accuracy on this part, it’s easier to draw the lines across the star point by starting and stopping BEFORE and AFTER the lines

image

When you then click the COLOR tab it shows the lines right

image

image

Color it and add to sketchbook

image

and make a quilt layout with it

image

Now when you want to actually MAKE this, you can add a leMoyne block to the quilt and print foundation templates

image

image

and you should be able to just add strips to the diamond star point piece until it’s full and then add the outside background pieces!

image

Or you can print templates! (It will print out the diamond shape twice because it’s in reverse, but WE know to just flip the piece over) LOL

image

If I would make this, I might do the block 12 or 14” this way a quarter of the block with FPP can fit on a piece of paper when I print it Smile

Try it out!
