Nancy Drew Blog hop Quilt and tutorial

The day is finally here!!
It seems like this hop has been in the waiting for a loooong time. Guess it was because the fabrics were delayed so the hop got delayed too :-)

You know I love blog hops! so of course I signed up as soon as I saw this at sewwequilt

Now since I'm not from the US, I actually never read Nancy Drew!
Though my kids know of the books but are not INTO them.
so..... I JUST ordered a charm pack of the fabric line from quilt taffy and I figured I would come up with something fun still! and of course after playing with EQ I came up
 with this.

Here's what I used to make it
1 charm pack (42)
1 yd red
over 1yd white print (more for the binding too)

Cutting directions:
Cut half the charms (21) into 4" squares
the other half 4 1/2" squares
From white cut (42)1 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles
and (42) 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles
From red cut (42) 4 1/2" squares and cut diagonally

Then sew red triangles to top and bottom of the 4" squares, iron toward red, trim off excess fabrics to line up with square.

Sew remaining red triangles to sides.
Trim blocks to 6 1/2" squares.

Now I just bought this nifty spinning mini cutting mat that was perfect, though it wasn't spinning as smoothly as I would have liked.

So I actually took off the black bottom and trimmed with just the black circle behind the mat, it didn't lay perfectly flat but it spun around great!! do any of you do that? or am I doing something wrong?

Here's the finished quilt.
I didn't care that some of the nancy drew squares were on point, but they are all turning the same way, so I kind of like it that way, but you can pick 21 that are non-directional if you want.

I did a loopy pointy meandering all over

(I really LOVE the white squiggly fabric, thought it went well with a book-ish fabric)

The backing was a burgundy fabric I pieced together and it was JUST enough!!
finished quilt measures 41" x 47"

Here's a video of me quilting it :-)

Thanks to Mdm Samm and Carol for hosting another great blog hop!!

Here's the other bloggers for today

This is quite clever, enjoyed it! I like how the fabric styles really stand out and the squiggly material kind of looks like question marks--as in...whodunit? :)
