catching up on easy street and customer's quilt

I'm catching up on easy street part 1
I started sewing together the 4 patches already
now I need to order the easy angle ruler for part 2

I also finished a customer's quilt

A fun 30s print quilt.
I quilted feathers inside the white squares in light blue thread

Now I have a friend who just a job with a litteracy group for out county for adults who don't know how to read, she used to be our PTA president and is a good friend. I told her that I would make her a "book" quilt to auction off, here's the book I saw at the library with this neat pattern, it's pretty simple but so NEAT. the book is called " the modern quilt workshop"

Here's a few pics of Sonja's "jenny jump up"

she liked it for about 5 minutes.

AND McCall's just approved 2 more quilts

catching up and deciding on easy street

Here's a little teaser of the quilt for "quilt it today :-)
The quilt is almost done, I've been working on the binding, so it should be done soon.

Today I worked on the kids advent calendar, I've been doing this for the last few years.
We buy a small lego set- this time it's a buggy car, last year it was a house

Then I take the manual(s) and sit down and sort the legos

step by step into little piles

then combined these into 48 little gifts (24 x 2)
THIS year I actually took one manual and cut it APART!! (gasp!)
so the kids won't know what they are putting together until Christmas, I kept the 2nd manual intact

Here's our small tree downstairs

and the large tree upstairs- all with home made decorations too

AND I finally finished the DEER block for Hidden forest, will have to wait to prep the next block.

and I have decided to follow the "winning" vote for EASY STREET mystery quilt along by bonnie hunter.

EQ7 tutorial Tuesday - picture quilt

the other day I was playing with eq7 again- no surprise right?- well that's how you learn!

I noticed a PICTURE quilt, under new quilt option, so I played around a little more and figured I'd show you what I came up with.

First start a new file, I named mine picture fun, then go up to QUILT/ NEW QUILT and Photo patchwork

You'll just get this grid as your quilt for now.
Then go back to QUILT/ import image for photo patchwork

I imported one with a high contrast, because the other day when I played around I did simple portraits and there wasn't that much contrast, this kite shows up better for blogger anyways.

don't worry that the picture doesn't fit the whole quilt just yet.
Now go under the layout tab and change the layout to whatever size you want the squares to be and how many in each row and column, you can also change the shape of the block. I kept mine as squares and chose 1"

Go back to the photo tab and select RESIZE- the middle button

Then enlarge the photo until it touches the top and bottom of the blocks, don't worry that it sticks out on the sides.

Then slick SHOW IMAGE right above it and it will turn into pixels

Go back to layer 1 and it fits inside the blocks now

I then used the eyedropper and picked the blue background color and colored the borders the same color.

Here's some pics from the other day

Now go play with this picture option in EQ7, I want to see what you can come up with! then link up

400 follower giveaway time!

I know it's been a little while since I reached 400 followers, I'm now at 406!!

I'm happy to have Electric Quilt Sponsor this giveaway

They are giving away a copy of "Quilt Design Wizard"

QDW is a quilt design software for beginning quilters and beginning computer users. It is an inexpensive way for you to try quilt designing on your computer for the first time.

 so it's "sort of" a mini version of EQ7, a great start for beginners!
It comes with 200 blocks and 3000 fabrics, you can design and print. (easy peasy)

Have a look here for more info on the software
and you can compare it with EQ7 here, obviously EQ7 has a lot more "stuff" but QDW is great to get your feet wet :-)

You can also download lots of projects here

All you have to do to win this is be my follower (comment that you are !)

(If you already have EQ7, you don't "NEED" this,
unless you want to re-gift it to someone else, IMHO, hope you understand, I just had a giveaway for current EQ7 owners and there might be more in the future)

I will pick a winner next monday morning :-)

Good luck

Easy Street isn't so easy.... can't decide

I am a sucker for joining a good mystery quilt!! last year was so much fun!- though I wasn't 100% happy with the end result, as I changed the colors around, and I haven't even quilted it yet!

anyways here's the link for Bonnie Hunter's Mystery quilt-along

Even though I have the women of the bible quilt -along too, plus a few deadlines for magazine quilts, I just can't help but wanting to join.

BUT I can't decide what colors to use

Bonnie listed Aqua 3 1/4yd
 Lime Green 3yds
Purple 2yds
Grey (the only constant) 2 yds
black on white print 4 yds

All these in scraps of course!! (except the grey)

So this is my pile, but I don't have a solid grey and this paisley is too close to the black on white- which I don't have enough of anyways

SO, what if I used a solid grey instead of the grey and then moved the paisley in the black on white pile?

#1

our friend Gwen gave me this cool red and blue fabric from Singapore, I've kept it for something "special" but I figured that if I keep thinking like that, the special thing may come and go several times, I have 4 meters of this ( close to 4yds) but it also has this neat border design going down one side, so.....

#2 would be
floral = aqua 3 1/4yd
white= green 3yds
red= purple 2yds
pale yellow = grey 2yds
blue(light and dark solid) = white 4yds

(it's a lot of solids though, which might be NEAT, I don't know)

Or a blue and green version but I'm splitting up the fabric "bundles" I got from Tonya, but then again I can't just keep saving them for whatever fictional project I have. hmm

#3
turquoise pile = aqua 3 1/4yd
Blue florals = green 3yds
pale yellow = purple 2yds
white = grey 2yds
Green and green dots= white

Now again from Tonya I got a deal on this small dotted fabric - 4yds of it so that could be my "white"

#4
light blues= aqua 3 1/4yd
White= green 3yds
yellow = purple 2yds
orange= grey 2yds
DOTS = white 4yds

(again a lot of solids though)

Or what about a winter version- I do have another birdie winter fabric on the shelf.

#5
reds= aqua 3 1/4yd
white = green 3yds
blue= purple 2yds
black = grey
winter fabrics = white 4yds

now I also got these boyish novelty fabrics from Tonya- I do have a plan to make two quilts for some twin baby boys, so maybe pooh and then trains would work? but then again they are SO different.

#6
yellows = aqua 3 1/4yds
green = green 3yds
white= purple 2yds
blue = grey 2yds
pooh and trains = white 4yds

What IF I just used the trains (or rather transportation) fabric and not the pooh one.
And maybe I can split the quilt in two for the twins.

#7
Reds = aqua 3 1/4yds
yellows = green 3yds
blue = purple 2yds
trains= grey 2yds
greens= white 4yds

So what do you think?? I just can't decide...
give me just a minute to upload the linky pics, then vote by LIKING them

Holiday Lane Blog Hop

Holiday Lane Blog Hop has started!!

Thanks Pauline and Mdm Samm for Hosting another great HOP!!

When I saw a picture of this cute "little" pillow, I knew I wanted to join.
so I got the pattern and looked at my fabrics.
I actually didn't have any or hardly any Christmas fabrics, then I remembered this tree skirt I started making (top done) and I had plenty of scraps left over.

So more untradtional colors and fabrics.

Here's all the pieces cut out.

The main part sewn together

And applique pieces ironed on, now since I chose a white background the white snow on the houses, blend it together, even though it's a different white.

Here I sewed the borders on and appliqued everything, it's hard to tell, but I button hole stitched around the windows, doors and trees, then did a tiny running stitch on the snow- all in a matching light blue thread (look at pics at the bottom of this post)

Here it's easier to see. And do you see the size of this pillow??

After I stuffed it I had to sew the flange closed, the outer edge was not too hard, but the inner part WAS! not easy on the machine, but I managed and it looks great :-)

I didn't quilt the pillow BTW, I just didn't feel like it.

Here is the pillow on my daughter's bed and without flash you see the outline of me :-) HI!! oopsie

Here the flash is on.

And my daughter wanted to sleep with it right away.

Here's a look at the back

a few close ups of the front

Here's a list of the other participants today.

Thursday November 22

 Have fun looking at more pillows!!
