More EQ fun

Do you know that I'm part of a FALL EQ blog hop, hosted by sewcalgal, starting monday!?

so I've been busy doing that, or trying!
it's hard to work in EQ when you are holding a baby :-)
as I often click and hold down ctrl or alt button, can't do that one-handed.
it's also hard to type, which I'm doing now one-handed...
(at least she's not crying)

last night I figured that if I set on the futon/couch I sleep on with Sonja, have her next to me and the laptop on my lap, I got more done....
so this is what I played with.

isosceles blocks and nine patches, set on point.
I like black/yellow and grey together.

I like blue and yellow too.

this is a pineapple block, with a block made from 4 HSTs-forgot the name

same blocks, just using a diamond in a square as alternate block instead

a flower block, four patch and diamond in a square

a funny flower block and HST blocks

two other flowers

then I found these flying geese and colored the center where they meet a different color.
(I'm still not "loving" the tangerine color of 2012) but I try!

a straight setting

another flying geese block

I'm back to the blue/ yellow combo

and my favorite- all blue!

what do you think?

(and now Sonja fell asleep)

Red white and blue top done and dilemma w leaders and enders

I finished quilting this cool customer quilt.
I love the design!!

I quilted it in a large swirl with points using a pink thread.
On to #2 for her soon!

Yesterday I finished sewing the left over triangles from the red white and blue blocks into HSTs.
I used them as a leader and enders project.
Then I wanted to come up with an idea for them, should I sew them together to make something else, like a mini quilt? or make them into a border for the existing quilt?
I sketched this in EQ7

With each large block being 12", I could trim the HSTs to 2" (2 1/2" before sewing) and fit 6 on the edge of each block.

it took a while to trim down 88 HSTs!! but worth it, because since it was straight triangles and they were trimmed from the other blocks they weren't all accurate! and good to trim off those dog ears too!

So last night I sewed the borders and this morning I finished the top.
Do you see my mistakes?? I noticed when I took the picture.....
(combare with the eq file)

I realized too that I had made 16 blocks not just 12, so I sewed those into a square, either I will use them on the back or turn them into a mini quilt.
(will be a cute gift as a combo- one large quilt for toddler time, a mini one for baby or baby car seat)

So now I need another Leaders and Enders project!
I have these batik FQs I won on a blog. And I have this Go! drunkard's path die I got for Christmas last year and haven't even tried yet. So I'm deciding what to do.

This is my idea!

My neighbor is moving and doesn't want to quilt anymore, she gave me two big bags of fabrics a few weeks ago, which I finally sorted! anyways, there's this swirly purple fabric- though it's kind of stiff, and I already washed it! don't know if I like it...
OR I could use these solids as an alternate?

Or solid black? though I don't have enough black right now. hmm
what should I do??

Yesterday while Solveig had chorus I brought this block with me to work on, and finally finished it!
Just now, I embroidered the eye too.

don't know if I like it... should I make it bigger? keep it?
the pattern does call for black fabric, but I thought it would be too small.
I could also add felt instead? hmm
can't decide again

Cleaning my machine and EVE!

I know you want to see another baby pic :-)
Here's Solveig holding Sonja.

Saturday I decided to clean my sewing machine since I couldn't remember the last time I did it.
well LOOK at all that lint!

Here's my "tool" for that, an old stiff paint brush, it's great for grabbing the lint.

that's how much lint was in there.

now it's all clean!
when is the last time you cleaned YOUR machine???
go clean it :-)

I had to show this too, my husband buys organic eggs and got a DOUBLE in one egg, how rare is that?

Yesterday the kids flew a kite. perfect weather for it.

I brought Sonja outside too
(now my husband could have told me her tummy was exposed!)

I made some labels for the woven stars quilt and the blue lil' twister quilt this weekend too.

AND the BOW with women of the bible has started already.
This is EVE!

quilting orange brick quilt and more

It's been a few days since I posted so I figured I'd post a little here.
I've been busy taking care of a certain little one.
Here I had put her in her crib- she did NOT like it.... boohoo

I've also worked on the outer border for McCall's #3 quilt, this is all I want to show.
Just wait and see :-)

Yesterday a customer dropped off 2 quilts and she brought this KIT called roman holiday which I'm buying off of her for CHEAP!

Yesterday and today I finally quilted this orange brick quilt, my neighbor who pieces and quilts all by hand had made this top and didn't like it so she gave it to me earlier this year!

I quilted an allover swirly design, this time I tried a green spool from Connecting threads, since it's thinner than my signature threads I had to change the tension. The place online where I buy my signature threads, don't carry it anymore, so I am thinking about switching to CT threads, since they are very affordable, I might want to test out a few more quilts to be sure. I want to work with 100% cotton threads and that's hard to find in a cone so I may have to just work with spools. we'll see.

here's the backing, a pale orange- well not as pale as this.... I might just have enough of it too to make binding for the quilt, we'll see.

I half smile here :-)

and I know some of you love to see doggie pics too, here's a pic of Peanut under the kids craft table.

I wanted to show too what I do when I don't quilt or when I'm feeding sonja.
I play on the computer, there's a few games I always go back to!
One is Civilization 3 (have 4 but don't like it as much)
and BIG fish games, big fish is great! you can trial play games for an hour before you buy it.
here's a puzzle game I was playing and I imported a personal picture and played that.

AND guess what!?
McCall's want 2 more quilts made!! woohoo
