post partum quilting!

I did some quilting!! yay

this was a customer's quilt, who "really" wanted it by september 1st, and I "really" wanted her to have it by then, so I worked on it in stages monday and tuesday- Yes, with Sonja strapped to me or in a sleeper (see below)
this quilt is a fund raiser - now I can't remember for what- so I'm also donating %25 of the quilting fee to the cause :-)

I quilted a basic meandering and then added the occasional dragonfly,

and butterfly!

see WHO's in the middle of my table?? at some point I was cutting fabric and everytime I sliced the fabric it would startle her- poor thing- she didn't cry though.
I did work on two blocks for swaps- I MIGHT have another block, I have to look, otherwise I'm all caught up.

Now I wanted to show you this!
I'm not the only creative one in this family! my husband made these speakers.
He's made lots of pairs over the years we've been together, but then he either didn't LOVE them or didn't finish then 100% or used them for a while personally and then after a while didn't like them, so he'd destroy them- always sad when he did. We do still have several pairs around the house- all different. And I'm so happy he's actually trying to get some views on this maybe one day a pair will sell, we'll see :-)

I did some applique! and some thoughts

Yesterday I DID manage to do some needle turn applique! yay :-)
It helped to have Sonja in the new maya wrap!

(it's hard to take pictures so close when I hold her, but I thought this was a funny picture)

I think I was able to sew on 10 or so pieces.
Tonya asked me if I also glued down the edges. I've mentioned before I love using ricky tims stable stuff for needle turn applique, I glue the ricky tims to the back of the fabrics (after tracing the pattern of course) then I cut approx 1/4" or less around the edges with scissors, here I had traced the basic outlines onto the backing fabric so I knew the placement. then I pin the pieces in place in number order and when I start to applique I turn under the edges as I go- it's a bit tricky to get the placement right, but you get used to it. :-)

Now here's a bit of my random thoughts that made my tear up this morning.
I was snuggling with Sonja on the bed and watching TV- I've been having bad pain near the c section scar, but about 2" above them, it seems to be muscle related, but I'm in as much pain as the 2nd day in the hospital and I ran out of the pain meds they prescribed, hoping they might refill it, but then again I'm against taking pills usually and these are strong so I don't want to be "hooked" on them either, not that they made me loopy or anything, they just dealt with the pain!
anyways, that's not my thoughts, I was watching the DOCTORs show on TV- I've only watched this a few times before - one clip was about a woman having two teenager and then a newborn and wanting her tubes tied. It reminded me of myself just a few years ago, I was happily content with having two kids, I was ready to do it too or about 90%, I thought more seriously about an IUD but decided against it for other reasons, so as I was watching this I looked at Sonja and just started crying! If I had done that a few years ago, I would have her her right now, a beautiful gift from God! I'm so in Love with her, she's so precious, I can't believe I thought of stopping God from blessing us with another child.
anyways, maybe it's just new mommy hormones talking here :-)

First picture

We're back home and have been for almost 24 hrs now.
Sonja is napping next to me so I had time to check my email and blogging :-)

I will post more pictures later, but I'm also hesitant since I don't like posting picture in public of my kids....

I'm still very sore after the C section, but getting better each day, now it's the "upper parts" that are starting to hurt- I remember those days...
One thing that GOT me this time around is how PERFECT Sonja is....
I'm usually not a "baby" person, and not even with my own kids, I think most newborns look weird, here of course with Sonja being a C section baby, she was nice and pink and no scrunched up face and head. But ever since she was born, I just haven't been able to put her down, I love looking at her, snuggling with her, kissing her etc. She's just SO cute and precious!
(of course she loves snuggling with me too)

so..... they/we agreed on a c section this week
and they just called and set it up for tomorrow!
I will keep you posted with stats and pics.

(no more guessing on the giveaway)

If you can't quilt then EQ!

Since I'm not doing much quilting/ sewing
I have been playing in EQ a little.

I am not sure if I showed these first two designs before, these were actually for the EQ challenge in July. If you have EQ7 and want to learn more, joining the monthly challenge here is a great way to get better. They post a "theme" - here it was birds, then you make 1 or 2 layouts and send it to them, at the end you get a copy of everyone elses files too and you can sit and figure out how they did it.

Here's a boy and girl version of a buggy quilt with alternate star blocks.

Then I started playing with rainbow colors, here using 2 different diamond in a square blocks and coloring from the middle and out.

be reminded that it means the covenant between God and Noah and God won't flood the earth again.

this is the layout before I colored it- totally different!

but looks neat in fall colors

or my favorite blue colors!

here I did a similar idea with just nine patches

not much quilting going on

I haven't done much quilting or sewing lately.
Actually, since I found out Sonja it breech, I've been feeling down and sad that I might have another C section. the doctor didn't feel it was safe to do an external VERSION, but this week I have been going to a chiropractor a few times, I don't think she has turned but just getting my hips and stuff aligned is good- I've never been to a chiropractor before, so it's all new to me.

Two days ago there was a msg from the doctors office that they want to schedule the C section, just in case, I haven't called them back..... I don't want to :-(
The doctor told me he's willing to let me go into labor and wait as long and possible to see if she turns, but he's not hopeful- I AM!
so anyways, just worrying about all this and feeling huge and uncomfortable I haven't been in my sewing room for a week and had a really bad day yesterday, so my husband told me that maybe I should try and do SOMETHING today, just to keep my mind off of things and do what I love doing.

Of course I did have a "plan" for something to bring to the hospital- haven't packed clothes for me or Sonja yet, but now I have a portable applique project :-)
This is what I worked on today.

remember I had mentioned this pattern before?

I picked out the chipmunk block and prepped all the pieces for it.

isn't he cute?? though I never cared for the colors on the pattern, but I picked a black background and then mottled "muted" colors from connecting threads.

here's the colors!
now I can't wait to get started on this one- 38 little applique pieces plus embroidery for the eyes and whiskers.

I had to put in a pic of Peanut too :-)

and handy hubby made this lego table for the kids, so that when SOMEONE is old enough to crawl/walk around she won't get into the tiny lego pieces.

I will keep you posted- 12 more days to go until my due date.

Guess the baby stats giveaway

As I'm drawing near to my due date.

Connecting threads is gladly sponsoring this giveaway!!

3 fat quarter bundles of this cute PEARADISE collection.

Here's the 3 ways to win
(you must be a follower of my blog to win)

#1 Guess the DATE Sonja will be born

#2 Guess the WEIGHT of Sonja when she's born

#3 Guess the TIME OF DAY when Sonja will be born

Post ONE comment with all 3 answers.
Once she's here I will see who's the closest and pick 3 winners
(if you're lucky you could win more than one!)

If there's a tie on some of the answers, I'll compare the other 2 answers and see who was closest with those. i.e several people may guess the date right but one person be 12 hrs off on the time and another be 2 hrs off, the the 2hr person wins.

Here's clues about my pregnancies so far.
My son (almost 10 and C section) was born August 21 (4 days late) 8lbs 7oz at 7.20pm -I believe
My daughter (almost 8 VBAC) was born Oct 21 (4 days early) 7 lbs 11oz at 5am -ish in the morning

My due date now is August 21st
but they just told me she's breech, so may may have to try and turn her next week, we'll see.

(giveaway comments are now closed, since I have my D day set)
soon we'll have 3 winners
