seasonal trees and appliqueing lotus quilt

Last night I decided to work on the four seasons tree blocks

here's the pieces all cut out

laying out the pieces, the only one I wasn't sure about was the summer one, but I kept it

here's the blocks sewn together

playing with a different layout, I don't like it, looks like the swaztika, ugh...

another look, but don't like that either

here's the top sewn together, now I don't know if I should just keep it like that or make a simple border or a different border....

Finished set#2 of the pineapple quilt blocks that I've been using as leaders and enders.

I finished doing the button hole stitch on half of the flowers on the lotus quilt, oh boy, it's a bear! to fight with it on the machine, I'm so used to blocks where it's easy to turn, not so on borders, but it's still worth it I know!

ketchup work!

I've been playing catch up today
Ketchup/catsup
(why is catsup a corect spelling?? it still looks way odd to me)

My daughter's class actually has a little basket that has a picture of a ketchup bottle and they add work in there they didn't finish and friday, they take it home to finish if they don't finish it during the week.

so anyways, I've just been making backings, cutting batting and binding etc for quilt tops that are done already

I did play with EQ7 this morning and thought of the 4" tree embroidered blocks I made, and thought of a log cabin block with white on the inside and matching seasonal strips on the outside.
I just don't have any white or white-on-white fabrics, only some off white fabrics, so.... should I use that or wait?

Lotus quilt and light house

Yesterday I started cutting out the lotus flowers for the lotus quilt top I made a while ago, and cut bias strips for the stems
I used heat n bond and ironed to the back of the fabrics and then cut out on the drawn lines.

when I was about to iron down the pieces, the stem didn't have the heat n bond on them, I thought I would pin them, but then I remembered I had bought this fabric glue and it worked great!

Here's the result

This picture didn't get flipped but you get the idea

another close up, now it's time to button hole stitch all the way around

My "prego" lunch yesterday, homemade bread and hard boiled eggs with tomatoes and avocado, I LOVE avocado, yesterday I ate the two I had bought the other day :-) -one with lunch one later

My son has been working hard on this lighthouse project for school, each 4th grader has to make a model of a NC lighthouse, his was oak island lighthouse

"we" even added a light to it- a christmas light, the ones you have in your window!

He did a great job! next week is the science fair, so he has to start that soon.

door sign and baby quilting

I'm part of this mini quilt sign swap, and I can only show part of it, hope I don't spoil it...
I'll show more details later after it's mailed off.

this is the label for the back, again I cut off part of the top.... Shhh!

I also started and finished quilting the gingham dog baby quilt for my neighbor.
I'll show more of the quilt when it's all done, I just attached the binding now I need to sew it to the back by hand.

I want to add more to my 2012 list, but maybe I shouldn't????
I was looking online for a free baby bootie sewing pattern, anyone knows what I'm talking about?
I would love to make some, ALSO have a craft show coming up at the school so if I make several pairs, they'd be cute to sell, I need little stuff like that :-)

customer's quilt done and NC arts

I just finished another customer quilt

I actually quilted it sideways too

Each block was a BOM from Bernina thru a local store.

feathers on the border and the border triangles

Now this is my thread basket, it's more like a nest now :-)

I also today was featured on this NC arts site

Owl quilt fun with EQ7

Yesterday "Brandie" emailed me a picture as inspiration for a quilt using the owl blocks I made for owl potholders.
(sorry I forgot your blog?)

Not sure where this quilt idea came from, but of course then I started in EQ7 and first had to create the owl blocks

I thought I could slice a circle in half, but couldn't figure that out, so I created a curve on the side, adjusted the curve and then drew a straight line down to close the shape, then copied it and flipped it.
added those as wings, the triangle beak was easy, there's a triangle shape you can add, then I added more circles for the eyes.
and here's the block

I decided on a 5 x 7 block layout, it looks like it's on point, but it's not :-)
here's the idea from above

Then I figured I'd color the owls the primary colors like the blocks

I then decided to do it square instead of a rectangle, then there's be 4 different owls.

Of COURSE I had to play with fabrics then and chose these from CT, now I can't remember the names, I think it was sweet rememberance, they are kind of matchy matchy, so I didn't care for these too much.

what about girly pastel colors? much better!

Here I made the borders smaller so it's less than 42" wide.

I then realized that the four patches above and below had to be switched.

I actually WANT to make this quilt.... it would be SO cute, and with 4 appliqued blocks that's like two sets of pot holders, so not too bad.
I don't think my circles on the blocks are totally perfect but I use the Go! cutter, so this is just to show. What do you think?
Again, if any of you want the EQ file, just email me I'd be glad to share it.

(can someone also tell me if you get the ROBOT message when you try to comment?)

another fabric Ball and feathers on customer's quilt

since I made a fabric ball for my son, my daughter wanted one too.
I re-traced the template from the patchwork ball book and they were now smaller, then I made cardstock templates instead of the plastic I had before, I also figured out that I could fit 2 on a charm square, so I had my daughter pick out 6 charms and I went to work!

Here's the result

Both balls together.

Last night my husband had a little fun with Peanut sleeping on the floor, he started piling STUFF on top of him, a piece of fabric, a plastic plate, a pillow, then the fabric ball on top, I think my laughter woke him up, because I was lucky to take this picture before he did...

This morning I started another customer's quilt.
here's just a teaser- she loves feathers.
I did take some videos too, but I'm trying to see how to compress them so they don't take 8hrs to upload on youtube.

well it's lunch time and I needed a break...

fabric ball, farmer's wife EQ, and first snow

I recently borrow this book from the library
I remember making pentagon balls when I was a teenager and couldn't remember how I did the cardboard/ templates inside, so anyways I tried this and sewed the fabric over the edge and sewed them all together.
These were leftover fabrics from the NEXT design star competition fabrics I had here.

Last night we got our first snow this season in NC, not much but still enough that the kids got excited, just too bad they already have today off from school, since NC schools are wimps! snow like this would have kept them home an extra day or at least be 2 hrs delayed.

At the library I also borrowed the Farmer's wife book.
I know I won't have time to make one and really don't want to either, but I DID have time to sit down and enter all 110 (or was it just 101)blocks into EQ7 and made this
I was surprised how few of them were already in EQ or maybe the names were just totally different.
I picked just 6 colors.

Here's a layout using Connecting threads fabrics from their "whisper" collection

and from their blue collection...
I love blue, so I'm partial to this one
IF I would ever make this, I would do it slowly and order the fabrics, the cut out the sashing and corner triangles and borders, then I'd know I'd have free reign over the rest of the fabrics and can mix and match them..

well, got another customer's quilt on the frame ready to start quilting, OR I could sew... it's really hard for me to long arm quilt when the kids are home, so.....

Owls are born and some LOVIN'

yesterday I started making a set of owl pot holders for our new neighbor.

While I was at it, I button hole stitched around the owl pin cushion I've had ready for a while

It's been a while since I showed some PEANUT pics, so here's my husband playing around with him.
"rock a bye Peanut..."

look at that lovin!

and.... I finally remembered to have my husband take a picture of ME!
14 weeks now.

Here's the finished set and my son and I just dropped it off, she loved it :-)
