Kaleidoscope snowmen baby quilt

Here's a pattern from Kaleidoscope quilts the smart way book.
I've made quilts from this exact pattern I think twice before and really love the look of it, the book and using this nifty smart plate template makes it easy and pie.
I bought this snowmen fabric and just had to make this quilt using that, I decided to also have the border fabric be right side up, but when I sewed it together, I did something wrong and suddenly my top border was too short, I didn't want to piece it so I instead made the corner blocks, and noone would ever know, exept you right now. LOL. shhhh, don't tell!
Also made the embroidered label and added a little squigglie thing at the bottom.
This is ready for a baby shower gift- for who? I don't know, but I often get these invitations with less than a week's notice, so it's good to have one on hand :-)
Now I need to make a girly one to have on hand too.

rainbow nine patch

I have this pattern now for sale on craftsy here

I designed this in EQ6 and then bought some batiks at a quilt show in pinehurst NC, made the top and then decided it needed a flower in the corner and I made this bold big flower by sketching it out and laying paper pieces on top to see what it would look like, then hand appliqued it down and long arm quilted it, I changed thread colors to sort of match the blocks underneath.

Red ribbon 2nd place quilt

In the fall (2010) I submitted my first quilt to a BIG international quilt show, it was in Tacoma, Washington, called INNOVATIONS.
First of all I was happily surprised I even got accepted, this is an all machine quilting show, and I've only had my long arm less than a year, and this bargello was the first one I quilting on the V17 :-)
So anyways, I shipped it off and when it came back it had a 2nd place ribbon attached!! I was thrilled AND a check came later in the mail. WOOT WOOT :-)
So I was told I can now call myself an international award winning quilter. AWESOME.
okay enough bragging, I'm still very surprised, but I have changed my focus and want to do more shows, any I can get my hands on :-)

piccadilly from Connecting Threads

I bought this kit from Connecting threads and finally got around to making it, the block were a little complicated or rather time consuming.
I machine quilted in white thread, I don't LOVE LOVE the spider web thing inside the snowball block, but I don't hate it either, it's just okay, again I playing around with different designs in the machine quilting.

solar system panel quilt for my son

My son's birthday is in august, since we went to Denmark in mid july and came back in early august, I had 2 weeks to make him this quilt.
I had bought the main solar system panel before we left from an etsy store, the panel and matching star fabric glows in the dark, so cool!
so again I tried to design something in EQ6 and came up with this.
I wanted stars in the borders too but knew I didn't have much time, so I did this simple paper pieced star, when I had all the blocks done and laid them out I realized I had mid calculated and totally missed a row or section, and I only had scraps left over, but I MANAGED! the hard part was the yellow, I just barely made it, and with the time crunch, I quilted it two nights before his birthday and did the bindind and label the night before his birthday, PHEW, he loves it, and for a while had it in his bed, now it's on his wall.
Now that it's getting colder, we might just take it down again :-)

Hinty block swap quilt

I had to share this too. The long arm machine I own is a Voyager 17, made by hinterberg, so fellow hinterberg owners joined this little yahoo block swap group and the theme this time was black and white, so we all sent in 12 blocks and got 12 different ones in return, someone on the group made a quilt with red sashing. I took it further and did red border and corner stones and then quilted in red on top, I wanted to do lots of feathers and tried to adapt to each block, it was lots of fun to do.

When pigs fly

My neighbor actually came up with the title for the quilt, I originally had thought about "don't throw pearls before swine" :-)
Another design I made in EQ6 and another try and paper piecing, this time I tried ricky tims stabilizer for the back of the blocks.
You can't really tell, but I quilted little wings and eyes on the pigs, so they CAN fly~
Did a made up swirly things on the other blocks.

Feathers on the border and I sketched out a piggy and cut it out and traced onto the corners.

Embroidered label

Red White and Blue Kaleidoscope fourth of july quilt

Not sure if I showed this one then.

I designed this in EQ, when I bought EQ, I got a free upgrade with another extra CD and I chose this kaleidoscope CD, my first try at paper piecing, so it was far from pretty on the back, but you can't tell now can you?? lol

Again I embroidered the label for it on my brother machine
Tried to do a swirly type quilting on top of the block and SITD on the star block

Little bubbles on the blue border and this lotus/crab design on the diamond border

Lots happened since june

Wow, lots of new things have happened, well first I finally got DSL..... now I can actually do this without it taking forever and then stall halfway thru uploading pics.
I've done lots of things since june too, in july/august for 3 weeks I took the kids back to Denmark to see family and friends :-)
About quilting? phew, lots and lots.
Okay, first I can reveal my mom's birthday gift, she turned 60 this year, which was the reason for finally going over there too.

Wow, this only took 5 seconds to upload, I'm doing more.
Okay so I forgot that the pics show up on top of the text, moving them down took longer than uploading, well enough about that.
This quilt was for my mom, the pic in the middle was her as a baby, I tried different methods of getting the photo on fabric, the iron on I didn't like and messed up one after I had made the block then accidentally ironed part of it again and it melted, so I scrapped that and instead did the freezer paper method, where I ironed freezer paper on the back of the fabric, trimmed down to 8 1/2 x 11" and shoved it thru the printer, worked great, just make sure the edge feeding into the machine is perfectly smooth and straight cut.
I had tried a mini one first and also tried to hand wash it and rub it a little and let dry and faded just a tad, that's the one on the label on the back- which I embroidered on my brother disney embroidery machine AND this one is not strickly my label maker machine, it kept jamming my fabrics this summer and my husband is now a pro at taking the machine apart and vaccuum out lint, but that didn't help, so for a while I had pieced fabrics with the walking foot, which worked fine but not ideal. One day in august I think, we went to costco and there was a simple sewing machine on sale, I really only need a straight stitch, nothing fancy, for $140, we bought it and it works great, I know it won't last in the long run, BUT if it lasts maybe 2 yrs I'll be happy, it would probably be one the kids can use at that point too. haven't figured which NICE machine I really NEED, but it's up there in price and we just don't have the $ for that now, until I earn big bucks quilting LOL.
